Check out this amazing Frozen-themed birthday party created on a budget.
Recently, my friend Sheree shared photos from her daughters A-MAZING Frozen-themed birthday party. She kindly emailed me the details and photos of how she put it all together and was happy for me to share on my blog. Enjoy!
Sheree found collecting little items every week for almost 2 months prior so much easier on the pocket. She was also lucky to have a local $2 shop closing down and getting 75% off a lot of little bits and pieces (like wrapping paper, serviettes, trees, cupcake cases, pass the parcel gifts and balloons etc). It was good timing too, as the Christmas decorations tied into the theme well.

Invitations
Sheree designed the invitations herself, using Word. There are many images available with transparent backgrounds on Google, that means you don’t have to be a Photoshop wizard to create something professional looking. It is printed on a metallic paper called ‘lusture’, giving it a shimmer look. The envelopes are from Kmart - they are designed for weddings, which include a RSVP/Guest info pocket. She bought a 10 pack of snowflake decorations from Countdown for $4 that fitted perfectly and acted as a ‘Save the Date’ party reminder. Sheree also got sheets of 180 coloured rhinestone stick ons from the $2 shop which she used to make the embellishments on the front of the envelope.
"Do you wanna build a Snowman" favour idea came from a Pinterest page. Sheree merged a few ideas together and designed her own. Using a small self-seal cellophane bag - add 3 large marshmallows, 2 small marshmallows, 3 choc drops, 2 pretzel sticks and a triangle cut off an orange jelly snake for his nose (alternatively you could use orange tic-tacs). Such an economical and effective gift to give out when the kids leave.

2 white xmas trees ($8 for both from a $2 shop closing down sale… SCORE!)
Arrangement of flowers: Sheree found some Reduced to Clear white roses at the local fruit shop…they were starting to brown on the edges, so she (with the kids help) put them in a vase of concentrated blue food colouring and left them in the fridge overnight so they wouldn’t open anymore…the roses sucked up the colour and in the morning they had REAL blue roses! (What a fantastic idea!)
Left over silver snowflakes hung from the ceiling.
Games
* Pass the parcel with dark blue, light blue and silver wrapping around each layer
* Ice Game: Make ice cubes in clear and light blue by adding food colouring. Have them placed on a white round tray. The aim is to collect as many ice cubes as you can using mini tongs and put them in a little tin pot (from $2 shop) in a rob the nest style game…Clear ice is worth 1 point and blue ice = 2 points, once there is no more ice cubes in the the tray you can steal from other tins until 1 minute is up. The person with the most points wins a prize.
* The girls sang Let it Go! Karaoke…was hilarious and so competitive!
* Pin the nose on Olaf: Templates available online
Cake
Most of the girls either wore Frozen costumes or blue outfits. Blue tutu dresses (as seen in top photo) was purchased from T&T for $12.
Food
Sandwiches, mini savouries, cocktail sausages, fruit kebabs, chips and chocolate biscuits. Sheree's mum made some shortbread (a favourite of the birthday girl) and decorated them as snowflakes which were a hit with the kids and adults. Sheree found some Greggs Blueberry jelly, which is an intense blue and put a snowman in it to look like Olaf playing in a puddle in Summer. She also put blue candy floss in paper muffin cups as blue snow and made mini cupcakes in tiny little foil cupcake cases from $2 shop with blue butter cream icing.
Drinks: Water and Lemonade in pale blue glass bottles from Kmart for $2 each
Sweets: Blue jellybeans (off Trade Me only), blue licorice and blue/white M&Ms in fancy glass lolly jars.
Sheree used white serving dishes so it didn’t compete with the colours.
After the cutting of the cake, Sheree had vanilla ice cream ready to go in short plastic wine glasses purchased from the supermarket…sprinkled with some blue icing sugar (tiny bit of blue food colouring added into icing sugar) on the ice cream which the kids loved. It was also used on the white mini cupcakes as well.
